Jocephus Josey
Funeral services for Mr. Jocephus “Joe” “Cephus” Josey, Sr., of Dublin, Georgia, will be held on December 29, 2019, at 11 AM in the C. D. Dudley Memorial Chapel at the Dudley Funeral Home, 617 East Jackson Street, Dublin, Georgia, Reverend McClain, pastor of the New Life Baptist Church, will officiate.
Mr. Jocephus Josey was born on April 25, 1928, to the late Jordan Josey and Leatha Hester in Rentz, Georgia. He lived in Laurens County until the age of 19 years old, when he moved to New Haven, Connecticut, to start a new life. There he met and married the late Millie Elizabeth Smith, and had five children, Deborah Josey, Jocephus Josey, Jr., Lynell Josey, Larry Josey and Lisa Josey.
In 1953, the family moved to Long Island, New York, while working various jobs and repairing the bowling alley machines, his passion lead him to become a professional bowler for 65 years.
After his 5-year separation, Mr. Josey and Rosa Lee Williams birthed Crystal H. King.
Mr. Jocephus Josey’s lifelong career was working with his hands by providing a service to his community as a mechanic and a carpenter. He worked for over 23 years at John F. Kennedy Airport as an airplane mechanic. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Dublin to live and continue to help others with auto mechanics and carpentry problems. Mr. Josey passed away on December 14, 2019.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Jocephus Josey, Jr. and Lynell Bernard Josey; step-son, George Davis; grandson, Leonard Hall; five brothers: Jimmy Josey, Booker T. Josey, Mack Wallace, O. C. Wallace, George Locke, and by two sisters, Jimmie Lee Peoples, Helen Lewis.
Mr. Josey leaves to cherish his memory four children, Deborah Josey-Haynes of Antioch, California, Larry Josey, Lisa Josey of Oakland, California Crystal Howell King of Austin, Texas; three brothers Willie (Dorothy) Wallace Bowman of South Carolina, Westley Wallace of Linden, New Jersey, Edward (Loraine) Wallace of Hillside, New Jersey, one sister, Lizzie Mae Joiner of Newark, New Jersey, one sister-in-law, Elsie Wallace of Youngstown, Ohio, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family expresses gratitude to Elizabeth (Lynn) Ricks for Mr. Josey’s care which kept him healthy for many years. The family has the deepest respect and love for Carla Horne for all the help and friendship they shared.
