Jimmy Childers, Sr.

A faithful servant of God and giver to all who knew him, Jimmy Ray Childers, Sr. of York, SC left to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the age of 87. Jimmy passed peacefully with his beloved wife, Frances, and their children by his side.
Jimmy was born in York on March 12, 1934, to the late William Jeff and Emma Quinn Childers. He attended York County Public Schools and after working as a produce manager in Great Falls, Jimmy moved back home in 1955 to open Woodland Grocery with his father. Later, they were joined by his brother, Charles. Jimmy and Charles kept “Mr. Willie’s,” as everyone fondly called it, going after their father passed in 1982, until they retired in May of 2003. From 1952-1961, Jimmy served as a Sergeant in the National Guard Army Reserves in the 118th Infantry and was honorably discharged.
In 1958, Jimmy married the love of his life, Frances Bolin, and they were happily married for 63 years. Jimmy and Frances met as children at Central Baptist Church in York. A devoted Christian man, Jimmy was an active member of Central Baptist and served faithfully as a youth group teacher, deacon, and treasurer for 45 years. He enjoyed riding his Goldwing with his wife as a part of the G.W.R.R.A. SC-H motorcycle group.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife Frances Bolin Childers of York; children, Tammy Boyd (JR) of Lamar, Tena Childers Perry of Wilmington, NC, Jimmy Ray Childers, Jr. (Eva) of Morse Bluff, NE, and Sandy Manus of York; sisters Lucille Templeton of Rock Hill and Frances McCracken of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Brittany Hamilton (Tim), Daniel Boyd (Heather), Tyler Boyd (Rachel), Justin Perry (Rebecca), Lauren Perry, Trinity Cappellano (Jason), and Ashlee Bryant (Jeffery); 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, W. Jay and Charles Childers; one sister-in-law, Judy Childers; two brothers-in-law, William Templeton and Thomas McCracken; and grandson Clint Boyd.
Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Central Baptist Church of York at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Funeral services will immediately follow in the church sanctuary at 4:00 pm. Jimmy will be laid to rest at Lakeview Memory Gardens, beside his grandson.
