Funeral Announcement – THOMPKINS, James

Funeral Services for Mr. James Richard Thompkins, will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 2 PM at Christ Deliverance Temple, 403 East Garner Street, Dublin. Reverend Eric Carswell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery, Dublin.

Mr. Thompkins was born January 12, 1961 in Dublin to Mrs. Hattie Mae Mitchell Thompkins and the late Rev. Layron Thompkins. He entered eternal rest on July 7, 2019. Mr. Thompkins was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church. He was educated in the Laurens County School System.

He previously worked for the Laurens School System as a custodian and at Tanner Tire Center in East Dublin. His passion was working on old cars and trucks. After he was injury and limited in what he could do, he still continued to work on cars in a limited capacity. Many would seek his opinion and advice about their cars. He enjoyed life and never met a stranger. If he saw anyone broke down side the road in a vehicle, he would stop and assist the person no matter who it was. It was his passion! He also loved sweets and would always say, “I need some sweets; I need to satisfy my sweet tooth.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Floyd; his father; his grandparents, Deacon Henry Mitchell and Carrie Spivey Mitchell; brother, Clarence Henry Thompkins; aunt, Viola Mitchell Coney; and uncle, Joseph Bill Mitchell.

Mr. Thompkins leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Hattie Mae Thompkins; his brothers, Rayfield Thompkins, Sr. and Albert (Vanessa) Thompkins all of Dublin; his sisters, Mary Thompkins, Margaret Wheeler and Janet Stephens all of Dublin; one uncle, Willie B. (Betty) Mitchell of Dublin; four aunts, Cora Sims and Carrie Wiggins both of Dublin, Mary Lou Davis and Bethenia Mitchell both of Riviera Beach, FL; nephews, Rayfield (Santwan) Thompkins, Jr., Marquise Stephens all of Dublin, and Kareem Spikes of Augusta; nieces, Gena Thompkins, Natosha (Shawn) Rayford, LaKeysha Stephens all of Dublin, and Katrina Wheeler, Atlanta; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at 988 Myers Drive, Dublin.
