James Ficklin

Funeral services Mr. James Lee "Buddy" Ficklin, of Dexter, will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 1:00 PM at the Thankful Baptist Church, 2615 Empire Chester Highway in Cochran. Reverend Oscar Small will officiate. Interment will follow in the New Canaan Church Cemetery.


Mr. Ficklin, who passed on August 17, 2013, was born October 9, 1940, in Dodge County to the late Lommie Ficklin and the late Luevenia Owens Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents along with his brother, Theo Owens; two nephews, Robert and Ernest Jackson and former wife, Lillie Payne. He attended school in Chester. Mr. Ficklin was a member of Thankful Baptist Church where he later became a deacon.


He was employed by Uniroyal until its closing and was soon employed by the J M Huber Corp Mine where he retired. His most passionate job was being a "Shade Tree" Mechanic.


He leaves behind his present wife, Belinda A. Ficklin of Eastman; six children, Terry (Tonya) Allen of Dallas, Texas, Brenda (Melvin) Allen of Warner Robins, Linda Ficklin (Tim) Garnto and Chris Ficklin of East Dublin, Amanda Ficklin (Otis) Goolsby of Eastman, Kenneth Ficklin of Dublin; stepdaughter, Hilliary Joy (Eric) Holly of Eastman; five wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Smith, Dublin, Alice Mae Gainey of Zephyhills, Florida, Betty Sue Jackson of Warner Robins, Sandra (Walter) Godfrey and Tiny Jordan of Chester; three brothers, Calvin Davis of Dublin, Billy Davis and Robert Davis of Chester, fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces , cousins, and friends including a very special devoted niece, Betty Jean Roberson.


The family will receive friends at the Dudley Funeral Home on Friday from 6-7 PM and at the home of his daughter, Linda Ficklin Garnto, 439 Peachtree Road in East Dublin.
