James Cadwell

Funeral services for Mr. James "Frankie" Cadwell, Sr., of Cadwell, will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 1 PM at the New Providence Baptist Church, 3127 Fountain Road, Cadwell. Reverend Edward Northcutt will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Cadwell, who passed away on February 22, 2017, was born on October 17, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the oldest of four children raised by his loving parents, the late Melvin Cadwell Summer. He was educated in the Detroit Pubic Schools, and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he advanced to the rank of Lance Corporal. He later met and married Phyllis (Hill) Cadwell, and they were blessed with a beautiful family. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rashawn Hill.

Mr. Cadwell enjoyed a career as an electrician at the Ford Motor Company. He was passionate about several hobbies, including music, archery, firearms, hunting, and fishing. James was highly regarded in the Detroit, Narcotics Anonymous (NA) community for his unique ability to breakdown the principles of the program into the simplest terms. Affectionately known as "Genuine", his tough love approach was instrumental in helping many men and women break the bonds of addiction. Every member of the core group he sponsored has achieved decades of clean and all recognized James as having had a hand in there recovery's success. His unorthodox approach led to the creation of Metro Recovery, an outpatient substance abuse facility that focused on "veterans of substance abuse treatment." These were the men and women that had been labeled helpless. Metro Recovery touched the lives of hundreds of addicts throughout its seven year history. He continued to support and counsel addicts by phone as well as welcoming them into his home when he moved to Georgia. He retired to country life moving to Laurens County in 2001. He assumed caretaker duties for the family cemetery, and also enjoyed micro-farming, hunting, and fishing.

Mr. Cadwell leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Isabelle (Cadwell) Jackson of Savannah, two sisters, Marlene Lewis of Lady Lake, Florida, and Kim Buck (Michael) of Savannah, a brother Melving (Elliot) Summer (Linda) of Atlanta, two sons, Darryl Cadwell of Detroit, Michigan, and James Cadwell of London, Ontario, a daughter, Staci Cadwell of Detroit, Michigan, seven grandchildren, close friends Lynn Pruitt of Savannah, Aisha Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 1924 Gingo Burch Road, Cadwell, and at Dudley Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 28, 6-7 PM.
