Funeral services for Mrs. Iris “Candy” White Wells, 86, of Douglas, Georgia, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Gaines Chapel AME Church at 1008 Coffee Avenue South, in Douglas. The wake will be on Friday, June 30, 2017, 6-9 PM at the church.

Mrs. Wells passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at her home. She was eighty-six years old. Born on July 28, 1930, in Bleckley County, Georgia, and lived in Dublin, until she moved to Douglas in 1969. She taught in the Dublin City Schools in the 1960s. She was the County Clerk in Douglas for 17 years until her retirement in 1995. Even after retirement, she refused to sit idle as many retirees due to her love of work and serving others. She was a member of the Mount Pullen AME Church in Dublin, and later for 48 years at the Gaines Chapel AME Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. White and Ruby Lowery White, her siblings, Hansel “Bud” White of Dublin, and Herman White, Miami, Florida, sister-in-law, Marjorie Wells Kellam, and by her husband, William James Wells, .

Mrs. Wells is survived by her children, William “Kenneth” (Edna) Wells of Fayetteville, Donald Keith (Barbara) Wells of Stone Mountain, James A. Wells of Lithonia, Pinky Antionete “Toni” Wells (Tom) Hudson of Douglas, and Edward Raynard “Ray” Wells of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two sisters, Ruby Faye Barones of Douglas, Georgia (Bunch) Clay of Pembroke Pines, Florida, a beloved sister-in-law, Obie Wells Hickens of Dublin, a special niece, Deborah Leta Kellam, and cousin, Bernice Stanley McClendon of Dublin, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also inherited another daughter, Melissa Ann Robinson of McDonough.
