Funeral services for the late Reverend Hezikiah Bobby Johnson, 71, of 3705 Gillionville Road, Albany, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 11:00 AM from Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 400 Pine Avenue, Albany, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Road, Albany, Georgia. His remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour.

Reverend Johnson, a husband, father, grandfather, pastor, civil rights leader, humanitarian, businessman, who can be described as a Godly man who pursued a Godly path toward a Godly cause, passed away on July 1, 2014.

Born on September 15, 1942, in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Deacon Hezikiah B. Johnson, Sr., and late Mrs. Alllie Dease Perkins Johnson. The ideals and moral values by which he lived and the loyalty and sense of services which is expressed so eloquently throughout his life were instilled in him and his brothers, the late Mr. Donnie Johnson and Mr. Larry Johnson and sister, Ms. Annette Johnson Martien, while having membership at the Savannah Grove Baptist Church in Effingham, South Carolina.

Reverend Johnson received his initial training while attending Florence County Public Schools and then entered Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Social Science. He then attended Virginia Union Theological Seminary, where he received a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He continued his studies at Duke University. He was also awarded an honorary PhD.

Reverend Johnson was affiliated with numerous organizations including Crown Lodge #383 Free and Accepted Masons in Florence, South Carolina, Dublin City School Board member, NAACP member, Editor of the Georgia Baptist newspaper, first host of GMBC Youth Convention , former member of the classification committee of the National Baptist Convention, Inc., former Vice President of General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Moderator-Emeritus of Fowlton Missionary Baptist Association, member of the Phoebe Putney Hospital Authority Board, organizer of the Black History celebration in Dublin, Georgia, and the Albany Baptist Ministers Conference.

During his career as minister, he held five pastorates spanning 51 years at the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church of Timmonsville, South Carolina, the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Barnwell, South Carolina, the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Blackville, South Carolina, the First Baptist Church of Dublin, Georgia, and the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia.

Reverend Johnson was the ultimate Godly servant who lived life with Godliness and whose work will live on. His belief in God and love for people shall follow him in the life there after.

Those who will be most profoundly deprived of love and the strength of his notable character include his loving wife of 50 years, Mrs. Portia Sizer Johnson; his son, Dr. Hezikiah Broderick (Carla) Johnson, III; his daughter, Mrs. Jennifer Johnson (Reverend Willie G.) King, PMP; four grandchildren, Halle Miranda Martin, Hezikiah Bernard Johnson, IV, Alaya Niko Martin, and Nia Simone Johnson.
