Herman Hood

Funeral services for Deacon Herman Hood, of Wrightsville, will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 11 AM at the Community Missionary Baptist Church at 863 James Grove Church Road, Wrightsville. Reverend Matthew Dennis, Jr., will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

Deacon Hood entered this life on March 18, 1923. in Tennille, Georgia, to the late Ralph Hood, Sr., and the late Lanie Bell Irwin. He worked for more than 31 years as a railroad worker for Southern Railroad. He enjoyed going to church, reading the Bible, spending time with his family and working in the garden. He was a member, and deacon emeritus, at Saint Galilee Baptist Church in Wrightsville. Deacon Hood served as chairman of deacon board for many years. He was married to the late Mary Lizzie Myrick Hood, the love of his life, on January 15, 1950. To this union, four boys were born; one preceded him in death. Deacon Hood departed this life on June 27, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his brothers, Ralph, Herbert and Dizzie Hood, and by his sister, Eunice Duckworth.

He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Ronnie (Alberta) Hood, Albany, Perry Hood, West Palm, Florida and Marcus (Marilyn) Hood, of Warthen; sisters, Alberta Hood, Miami, Florida and Julia Pearl Hood, Atlanta; Sister-in-law, Lavonia Hood; eight grandchildren, Anita, Jared, JeMelanie, LaToya, Lakesha, LaRosa, Lakeisha T., Rodney and Gettis; five great grandchildren, Janius, PJ, Jamari, Jayla and Zuri; three devoted nephews, Tony, William and Frank Hood; two devoted friends, Henry Watts, Adele Wallace, several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 40 Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive in Wrightsville, and on Friday, June 30, 6-7 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home.
