Hattie Mae Folsome

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hattie Mae Moorman Folsome, 89, of Wrightsville, will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 1 PM at the Community Missionary Baptist Church, 627 James Grove Church Road, Wrightsville. Reverend Clifford Hunter, Jr., will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Ray W. Folsome Memorial Garden in Wrightsville.

Mrs. Folsome was born on April 12, 1925, in Wrightsville, to the late Hatson Moorman and Rosa Hicks Moorman, as the ninth of ten children, all who preceded her in death. She made her transition on January 5, 2015, at Serenity Hospice in Dublin.

A life-long resident of Wrightsville, she was lovingly referred to as “Miss Hattie", and received her education at Tucker Elementary School and was a 1945 graduate of T.J. Elder High School in Sandersville. She married Joseph W. Folsome on April 24, 1948. Together, they worked to build a Christian and loving home for their eight children. She worked each summer canning fruits and vegetables and assisted in preparing the meat from livestock to ensure that her family would not go hungry during the winter months.

Mrs. Folsome was a strong proponent of education and was determined that all of her children would have the opportunity to attend college. She entered the workforce at the age of 47 and worked as a paraprofessional with the Johnson County Board of Education and later with the Johnson County Training Center where she retired in 1988. After retirement, she worked as a substitute teacher for over 15 years.

Mrs. Folsome accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and united with Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Church. She moved her membership to James Grove Baptist Church upon marriage and later renewed her fellowship with Mount Pleasant. She was active in Sunday School, Deacons Wives and numerous other church activities.

She was active in the community and in activities involving her family. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, member of the PTA and in the WMBS. She enjoyed baseball and would often act as the pitcher while Daddy acted as the catcher for the grandchildren as they played a game in the front yard. She enjoyed baking, sewing and believed in keeping an immaculate home.

Mrs. Folsome leaves to cherish her memories eight children, Janice Davis, John Folsome, Joseph (Patricia) Folsome, Orlean Baulkmon, Cornell Folsome, Jimmy (Anita) Folsome, Paul (Elizabeth) Folsome and Sheila (Keith) Mitchell; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, John E. Folsome of New Jersey, Branham S. Folsome of Mississippi, Robert R. Folsome and David R. Folsome both of Wrightsville; six sisters-in-law, Claudia Folsome of New Jersey, Cassandra Folsome of Mississippi, Thomasenor Folsome of Adrian, Gail Folsome and Catherine Folsome both of Wrighsville, and Grace Moorman of Cambria Heights, New York; a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Folsome will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. The family will receive friends at the Dudley Funeral Home on Friday, January 9, 2015, 6-8 PM.
