Funeral services for Mrs. Gwendolyn “Gwen” Blair (née McClain), formerly of Wrightsville, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 2 PM at the Lovett Grove Baptist Church, 1359 Idylwild Road in Wrightsville. Reverend Curtis Blair will officiate. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Blair, who passed on January 15, 2017, was born on March 18, 1936, to the late Elizabeth “Lizzie” Simmons (née McClain) and Will Cason in Wrightsville. She attended Doc Kemp School in Wrightsville where she excelled in basketball. It was said by friends and family, "If Gwendolyn has the ball at half court and attempted a shot, it will be made!"

Mrs. Blair accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Neeler Chapel AME Church in Wrightsville. Later in life she became a member of China Temple Holiness Church in Wrightsville. She loved the Lord and always told her children "always pray and stay with Jesus.” She loved her family and vigorously supported the endeavors of her children and grandchildren. As a result of her generous and loving spirit, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was displayed through her God-given gift to encourage others in life through God's Word. She had the ability to see beyond just the physical attributes of a person. The sweet and deliberate tone of her voice was regal in her nature. Both inside and out, she was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Mrs. Blair leaves to cherished her precious memories her husband, Verlion Blair, her children, Maevonia (Robert) Jackson, Richard Abrams, Jr., Herman Blair, Valeria Blair, Brenda (Barry) McClendon, Verlion Blair, Jr., Michael Blair, and Milton (Glenda) Blair, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 121 Dick Warnock Road in East Dublin. She will be placed in the church at 12 PM prior to the funeral for viewing.
