Gwendolyn Beard
Funeral services for Ms. Gwendolyn Beard, of Dublin, will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Washington Street Presbyterian Church, 975 South Washington Street in Dublin. Reverend Dr. Ricky Porter will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery in Dublin.
Miss Gwendolyn Beard, affectionately known as "Sweetney", was born on April 5, 1953. She made her transition to heaven on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Willie Oscar Beard and the late Ethel Mae Beard.
Miss Beard began her walk with Jesus Christ at an early age by joining the Washington Street Presbyterian Church. She sang in the choir and served the Lord faithfully until her health declined. In earlier years she shared her beautiful voice with the Voices of Joy. She was also known to make her voice heard singing the National Anthem at Dublin High School., Her passions were flowers, yard sales, dancing and making people smile.
She attended Oconee High School up until 1970 and was a member of the first graduating class of the Dublin High School in 1971. She received a degree from Paine College, Augusta, Georgiam and later received her Teacher's Certification from Middle Georgia College. She taught school for twenty plus years at Moore Street Elementary School, Dublin High School and Moore Street Alternative School until she retired in May of 2016. Even after retiring, she continued sharing her love for teaching as an adjunct faculty at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. She devoted her life to teaching and blessing the lives of many children until her health declined February, 2019.
Her sweet memories will be cherished forever by her son, Wimpy B. Allen Jr, Dublin, her aunts, Hazel Jones of Allentown,Gladys Lindsey of Cincinnati, Ohio, an uncle, Thomas Smith of Dublin, many friends including Gwendolyn Holliman Walker, Erica Wade-Johnson, Tammy Howard, Janice Bell-Stuckey, Pearl Whitlock, Sheila Fluker, Lynne Towson, her devoted care-giver, Sharon Ashley-Washington; her 'Lil Guy' whom she adored, Master Jeffery Drayden Washington, and her beloved dog, Rome, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
