Grendell Brown
Funeral services for Mrs. Grendell “Gwen” Brown, of East Dublin, will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11 AM at the Saint Paul A. M. E. Church at 308 Rowe Street in Dublin. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill A. M. E. Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was born on February 15, 1956, in Dublin to the late Mr. Roger Lee Brown and Mrs. Adlene (Fordham) Gordon. She was the first born of her parents' children. In 1991, she met Mr. Nyika Wiggins and maintained a long-term committed relationship until she made her transition.
Mrs. Brown received her education in the Laurens County Public School System and graduated from Dublin High School in 1976. She worked various jobs including at Georgia Plywood Corporation and the pants factories in the area. In 1997, Mrs. Brown began working for the South Central Community Health Corporation, caring for mentally challenged clients. She retired in 2009 from the Hillcrest Group Home in Dublin. Gwen loved travelling, cooking, gospel music and meeting new people. Mrs. Brown united with the Zion Hill A.M.E. Church in East Dublin in 1988 where she became active in Kitchen Ministry making great-tasting meals. After a brief illness, she made her transition quietly on Saturday, March 7, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Lee Brown, Sr., and by a sister, Peggy (Brown) Harris Weddborn.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her mother, Adlene Gordon, sons, Nick Scott and Ricardos Godfrey all of Dublin;grandchildren, DeAndre and DeAunte Scott, Ramod, Ricari and Riciyah Godfrey of Atlanta; sisters, Hattie (Fredrick) Dudley Stroud of Blackwood, New Jersey, Margaret Brown and Beverly Ann Abrain of Boston, Massachusetts, Annie Ruth (Tyrus) Stanley of East Dublin, Beverly Ann (Jeff) Seals of Baltimore, Maryland, Sharon (Sam) Floyd of Glenwood, Lori Wilcher and Catherine Wiggins of East Dublin, and Cassandra (Jonathan) Dassie of Rentz; brothers, Roger Lee Brown, Jr., Ricky Brown of Dublin and Willie (Alicia) Gordon of Dublin; aunts; Christine Graham, and Vertis Blue of Boston, Massachusetts and Essie (Robert) Lennon of Fort Kent, Maine; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family is receiving friends at 526 Maes Lane in East Dublin.
