Memorial Service for 94 year old Ms. Glenda Carruthers of Clarksville, Texas who went to be with her Lord Friday, April 27, 2018, in Clarksville Nursing Center, Clarksville, TX, will be Thursday, May 10, 2018 @ 11:00 a.m. at Citizens Funeral Home Chapel, 500 E. Church St., Clarksville, TX with Rev. Joe Liggins, officiating.

Ms. Glenda Carruthers was born on November 1, 1923 in Clarksville, TX to the late Julious Black Sr. and the late Alice Dillard Black. Glenda accepted Christ at Free Hope Church and later became a member of St. James Baptist Church. She united in marriage with Johnnie Carruthers in 1941. To this union, two children were born: Son: John E. Carruthers and Daughter: Pauline Carruthers.

In 1954 Glenda’s mother, Alice Dillard-Black and Julious (Buddy) Black residing in San Francisco, CA, decided to come to Clarksville for a visit. Buddy was able to talk Johnnie, (his brother in-law) into moving to San Francisco. Johnnie loved California. After he got himself settled and working, he sent for Glenda to join him. Glenda came back to Clarksville in 1955 to pick up their two kids and off to San Francisco.

Glenda was very active in her church, Evergreen Baptist Church, serving as president of the Usher Board. Johnnie sadly passed in 1969, and Glenda decided to move back to Clarksville in 1976.

Glenda and her business partner, operated a barbeque and hamburger facility. After the death of Junion Franks, she continued operating the facility until her health failed.

Glenda was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers-Julious (Buddy) and Bobby Charles Black Sr.; and sister-Alice Louise King.
