SMYRNA -- Gladys Riddle Whitesides of 3020 Legion Road passed away Monday, February 15, 2016, at her home in Smyrna.
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Smyrna A.R.P. Church with Rev. Andy Putnam and Rev. Jan Senneker officiating. Burial will be at Smyrna A.R.P. Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 4 - 7 PM at the home, 3020 Legion Road, Smyrna, SC.
Gladys was a daughter of the late Harry Riddle and Gladys Porter Riddle. She was the widow of William Lester Whitesides, Jr. Gladys was a member of Smyrna A.R.P. Church, and was a retired teacher, having taught in Hickory Grove and York. She was also co owner and operator of Whitesides Company in Smyrna, SC. Gladys was active in her community and served on a number of boards including, Piedmont Medical Center, McCelvey Center in York, United Way Board, Clover Community Bank, and many other charity and boards. She was also a York County Ambassador for United Way Volunteers.
She is survived by daughters, Anne W. Weeks, Jeanne W. Karagias (Nick), Susan W. Benfield (Michael), Leslie W. Rountree (John), grandchildren, Anna Glenn (Robby), Robert Whitesides, Porter Gable (Jordan), Cassidy Benfield, Morgan Rountree, and William Benfield, two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Maggie Glenn, and brother William "Bill" Charles Riddle. In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her son William "Bill" Lester Whitesides, III.
