Freida Cooper
Freida Lucille Cooper of Eden went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 1, 2015. Graveside services will be held in Kingsland Cemetery (Kingsland, TX.) Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM. under the direction of Eden Funeral Home.
Freida was born in San Antonio, TX on March 8, 1920 to Henry Otto Oppermann and Fredricka (Gierspeck) Oppermann. She graduated from Breckenridge High School, San Antonio, TX. in 1938 and was active in both Choir and the Archery Club. When she had the opportunity, she enjoyed playing softball in the summers, and she loved to dance. She met her future husband, Hughie E. Cooper, at a dance the summer of 1937, and they were married on September 3rd the following year. They made their home in San Antonio, and started a family there. Freida was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker for many years. Although they moved around quite a lot, they seemed to frequently find themselves in and around the San Antonio area.
After her kids were grown, she decided to go back to school and get her nursing certificate, which she successfully obtained in 1970. She spent 14 years faithfully caring for others at Shepherd Hospital in Burnet, TX., until she decided to retire. Freida lived in Kingsland until 1997 when her health started to decline and she moved to Eden to be close to her daughter and her family. She enjoyed attending church at the Church of Christ and if you spent much time around her at all, you were sure to hear her gently humming a tune as she went about her day. In 2001 she moved to Concho Health and Rehab, where she lived out her remaining years until her death.
Freida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hughie E. Cooper of Kingsland.; her son William Earl Cooper of Kingsland; and one granddaughter, Margaret Ann Cooper of Colmesneil.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Chant and husband Chris of Eden; five grandchildren, Rebecca Edwards and husband Neal of Lubbock; Rodney Chant and wife Kristy of Pasadena; Tray Chant and wife Susan of Waxahachie; Charles Richard (Chuck) Cooper and wife Nova of Kingsland; and William Calvin Cooper of Buna; eight great grandchildren, Brady & Zach Chant of Pasadena; Chloe and Andrea Hamilton and Michaela Flink of Lubbock; Carrie and Emily Chant of Waxahachie; and Cheyenne Robert Cooper of Silsbee; two great-great grandchildren, Shyleigh Renne and Lilly Belle Cooper of Silsbee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Freida's memory to the following charitable organization(s) of your choice: Alzheimer's Association; American Diabetes Association; Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; American Heart Association; or Gentiva Hospice in San Angelo.
