Frank Martinez

Frank R. Martinez (Bob), 87, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2012 at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton with his family by his side. He was born May 14, 1925 in Mission Township which is now Mission Road in Loma Linda. Bob was a native Californian and lived locally his entire life. He moved his family to Yucaipa in 1957 and has been a resident since. Bob attended Mission School, Redlands Jr. High School, and Redlands High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 during WWII serving in the South Pacific. He was very proud to have served his country. He worked at the University of Redlands for the physical plant department since 1951. While at the university he became an honorary Phi Chi. When he retired in 1993, he received an honorary doctorate in horticulture from the University of Redlands Communicative Disorders department. Also in 1993 he was one of two employees of the year. When he was not working and upon his retirement he enjoyed freshwater, deep sea, and surf fishing and tending to his garden. He is survived by his son Robert F. Martinez and his wife Jean Hill of Yucca Valley, daughter Sandra D. Cast of Yucaipa, grandsons Ronald Calvaruzo of Whittier and Marc Hanson of Yucaipa and granddaughters Mary Calvaruzo Jimenez of Harveyville, Kansas, Christina Martinez of Studio City, and Leslie Martinez of Las Vegas and five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Bob is predeceased by his wife Mary, daughter Patricia Calvaruzo, grandson Erick Calvaruzo, brother Carlos Steven Martinez, and sister Gloria Houseworth. Sunset Funeral Care of Redlands is in charge of his final arrangements. Services will be held Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:30am at Riverside National Cemetery
