Robert F. Ledford Sr. owned a plethora of businesses including over-the-road transportation, a service station, ambulance service, and funeral homes. He first partnered in the funeral home business with Frank Shull, operating the Shull Funeral Parlor. After becoming sole owner of that enterprise, Frank built the area's first funeral home to boast of air conditioning in 1956. The Ledford family opened a second funeral home in 1986 called the Unicoi Funeral Home and Chapel and still owns and runs this business.
