In 1870, just after the end of the Civil War, B. H. Morrissett left his trade as a cabinetmaker and established what was to become the oldest continuously operated business in South Richmond. The Morrissett family served their community for generations, until 1969 when Esther Morrissett sold the company to Robert G. Danielson. In 1998, the firm was acquired by two of its employees, Richard M. Booker and Laurence F. Spiaggi. On December 31, 2015, Dick Booker retired after 47 years service to our firm. Larry Spiaggi and his wife, Sue Danielson became the sole owners. Larry and Sue are keenly aware of the 136-year tradition of service they have inherited with this exceptional Richmond funeral home, and continue to dedicate themselves to deserving the trust and confidence of the families they serve. Today, this venerable company still serves the greater Richmond community, and maintains the tradition of excellence in funeral service the Morrissett family started so long ago. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 Morrissett was one of two funeral homes in the State of Virginia awarded the "Pursuit of Excellence" award by the National Funeral Directors Association. This award only goes to the top one percent of funeral providers out of 22,000 that are eligible. We were recognized as the "Best of the Best" in 2015 by the National Funeral Directors Association. This award goes to the top four funeral providers out the more that 22,000 members of the association. We are very proud of our team here at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service. Even with these high accomplishments, the greatest recognition we can receive is being chosen by a family and entrusted to care for their loved one.
