Funeral services for Reverend Eugene R. Allen of Dublin will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 12:00 PM at the Washington Street Presbyterian Church, 975 South Washington Street in Dublin. Interment will follow on Monday, February 25, at 12:00 PM in Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta. Reverend Allen, who passed on February 16, was born on March 20, 1934, to Reverend Ciscero Allen, Sr., and Ophelia Bailey Allen in Henderson, North Carolina. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force until retirement on December 1, 1976. He pursued his education at San Bernadino Valley College in San Bernardino, California, at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, North Carolina, and at the Charles H. Mason Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He pursued continuous educational studies with the South Georgia United Methodist Church and with the Veterans Administration. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy and a Masters Degree in Theology. Reverend Allen served as Pastor, Minister, Chaplain, Counselor, friend and dedicated leader with over 30 years of service to the United States government and over 17 years as chaplain of the Carl Vinson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dublin. He also served as president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a member of B.O.E., a member of the board for the Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA), a member of the Alpha Phi Apha Fraternity, Inc., and a member of the Board of Directors for Easter Seals Middle Georgia. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ciscero and Ophelia Bailey Allen; his brother, Ciscero Allen, Jr.; and his daughter, Ophelia Michelle Allen. Reverend Allen is survived by his wife, Selwyn Allen; children, Michael Judge, Makeba Allen (Kendall) Parks, all of San Bernadino, California, Demetric M. (Charles) Cowans of Dublin, Cedric (Marlene) Holston of Los Angeles, California; sisters-in-law, Catherine Harper, Atlanta, Irmagene Embry of Carrolton, Thelma (George) Williams of Rockledge, Florida; brothers-in-law, Square Thomas, Jr., of Portsmouth, Virginia, Samuel M. (Jo) Williams of Lithonia; grandchildren, Sheemah, Corey, and Melina Judge, Joshua, Julienne, Josiah and Jeanette Parks, Khalia R. and Jordan M. Holston, Joanna and Keem Cornejo; an aunt, Nancy Bailey of Hartford, Connecticut; cousins, Gwendolin V. Bailey, Shun L. Bailey, Evelyn Bailey (Kenneth) Green, Christopher P. Green, Synfoni K. Bailey Green, all of Hartford, Connecticut, Betty Mae Bailey of Oxford, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Haley and Gregory Judge, Jakiah D. Fuller; and a host of other relatives and friends.
