Funeral services for Mr. Ernest Smith, Jr., of Dexter, will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Saint Luke Baptist Church in Dexter with Reverend Jamie Pittman delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at the Saint Luke Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Smith transitioned from this life on January 3, 2015, after an extended illness. He was born on May 26, 1935, in Laurens County. He was married to Bobbie Jean Tinsley on March 16, 1956. He joined the Saint Luke Baptist Church at an early age. Ernest Smith was employed with J.P. Stevens (Forstmann Company) for a number of years and retired in 2001. He started a lawn care service after his retirement and continued the business until his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Smith, Sr., Ethel Smith, and by Donna Mae Smith.

Those left to cherish his loving memories are his wife of over 58 years, Bobbie Jean Tinsley Smith; his children: Willie “Bo” E. (Judy) Smith, Debra S. Brown, Bobby Ray (Cheryl) Smith, Cynthia D. (Alphonza) Payne , Ernestine (Ivan) Lewis and Michelle (Jerry) Rumph; sisters: Shelby Parks, Lula Wallace, and Julia (Chris) Young; uncle: Willie King; sisters-in law: Dorothy (John) McRae, Doris Jackson, Loretta Harvard; brothers-in-law: Willie (Ossie) Ross, Nepolion (Susie) Harvard, Benjamin (Ernell) Harvard, Felton (Ruby) Harvard; fourteengrandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at 414 Cemetery Road in Dexter.
