Elvira Garcia
Elvira Cortinas Garcia, 95, of Eden, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 7, 2015 in Round Rock, Texas. She was born in Cameron, Texas to Rafael and Christina Cortinas on September 21, 1919. She married Miguel Garcia on September 8, 1940 in Melvin, Texas.
Elvira is reunited in Heaven with her loved ones; Miguel Garcia, husband; Perlita Esther Garcia, daughter; Rafael and Christina Cortinas, parents; and Rita Guevara, Sophia Gevara, and Lucy Giles, sisters. She is survived by her six children; Mike Garcia and wife, Lee of Cedar Park; Eloy Garcia and wife, Gay of San Angelo; Perla Zamora of Round Rock; Lydia Hinojosa of Pflugerville; Andrew Giles of Lincoln, Arkansas; and Joe Edward Giles of Liberty, Indiana; and brother, Henry Cortinas of Kerrville.
Elvira was a tenacious, loving and God-fearing woman. Although her life was filled with love, faith and family, she also survived trials and tribulations that made her the incredible woman she will be remembered as. With her husband, Miguel, deployed in Italy during World War II, she faced the unbearable loss of her second born child, Perlita, at just 6 months old in 1944. Later, at age 36 she lost her beloved Husband to his battle with cancer and found herself raising 6 children alone. Dedicated to the love for her late Husband and destined by the significance of her vows, she never sought comfort or security in finding another love. Instead she filled her heart and built her spirit with a 95 year collection of breathtaking moments and memories. She watched her family grow to include 14 Grandchildren, and 25 Great Grandchildren; and many more of God’s children that she opened her home and her heart to. It was her steadfast spirit and devout faith in the Lord that guided her to overcome adversity and be a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all those she encountered in this life. She found joy in sewing, prayer, cooking, reading, dancing and serving others through her Savior. Five years ago, family and friends gathered in Eden to throw her a 90th birthday celebration of a lifetime. Elvira danced the night away, Coors Light in hand and rejoiced in the presence of her true loves; her family. Elvira has called Eden her home, in that little pink house off a dusty dirt road, for over half a century; she will be missed by all who love her dearly. If you had the honor of knowing her, if even for a brief second, we know you will find peace in knowing that you’ve had your very own prayer warrior all this time; and now a very special guardian angel protecting you.
(27)She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. (28)Her children arise up , and call her blessed ; her husband also, and he praiseth her. (29)Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. (30)Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised . (31)Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:27-31
