Edward Healey

Edward Gilday Healey of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 17, 2018, three days shy of his 62nd birthday. Ed was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the second of seven children born to Anne M. (O’Brien) Healey and the late John F. Healey of West Hartford. He grew up in West Hartford and graduated from Conard High School in 1975 with his twin sisters Maura and Christine, and later earned a degree from the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture at the University of Connecticut. Following graduation, Ed worked for several area garden centers and nurseries, but his most rewarding work experience came as the proprietor of Gilday’s Antiques of Woodbury, Connecticut, which he established with his life partner, Thomas Geiger, in the mid-1980s. Tom and Ed spent many happy and peaceful years together at their Woodbury homestead, hosting numerous family gatherings and creating endless happy memories. Following Tom’s death in 1995, Ed moved to Cape Cod, where he became a devoted companion and care giver, first to his dear great-Aunt Edna Gilday and then, until his own passing, to many elderly clients through his work with Home Instead. Ed was a man of varied interests and passions. He selflessly shared with everyone his remarkable knowledge of flowers and plants. He spent years meticulously researching and documenting his family’s genealogy. Ed became a Reiki master to share his gift of healing with family and friends. He was unfailingly kind and generous, intellectually curious, and blessed with good humor and a gentle spirit. With uncommon determination and courage, Ed long battled a withering array of medical issues, often alone but forever uncomplaining. He is now at peace. In addition to his mother, Edward is survived by his loving brothers and sisters: John F. Healey, Jr. and his wife Theodora of Richmond, TX; Maura E. Aldrich and her husband Ronald of Granby; Christine A. Healey of East Hartford; William F. Healey and his wife Susan of West Hartford; Richard D. Healey and his wife Kathleen of Rochester, NY; and Brian S. Healey and his wife Roxanne of Gallatin, TN, along with nine beloved nieces and nephews, and a grand-nephew. Edward is also survived by Tom’s children Timothy A. Geiger of The Villages, FL and Tammy I. Geiger of Deltona, FL, countless friends in Connecticut and on the Cape, and his cat and faithful traveling companion, Emma. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 24th at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave, West Hartford on Saturday, August 25th at 10am. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Donations in Edward’s memory would be gratefully received by St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince Street, Provincetown, MA 02657.
