EARLENE (CRICKETT) ELAMJANUARY 21, 1951 – March 28, 2012 Earlene Causey was born January 21, 1951 in Brawley, California to Jack and Ouida Causey. Her beautiful smile and adorable personality lit up the world around her. She had a deep love for animals and would often rescue strays and nurse them back to health. As a youth she and a friend gave each other nick names. She nicknamed her friend “Mickey” after Mickey Mouse and her friend nicknamed her “Cricket” after Jiminy Cricket. Cricket stuck and she added another “t” at the end to make it original. Crickett was an original. Everyone loved her. She had a wonderful wit and sense of humor. When Crickett was sixteen, she and her friend Lyn went to Lyn’s house for lunch. She met Lyn’s big brother, George Elam. They married on June 1, 1967. On March 24, 1968 they welcomed their baby girl, Cherri Lynn, into the world. About five years later they took in Cricket’s beloved niece, Barbara. Crickett had fallen in love with Barbara the moment she saw her. She and George also were trying for another baby and were finally blessed with another girl on January 6, 1976. They named her Crystal Dawn. The family had moved from California to Las Vegas, NV and from there to Cedar City, UT. They loved the mountains and beautiful scenery of Utah. In 1982 Crickett divorced George. She worked hard to take care of her girls and raise them right. She was a fun mom… always finding fun things to do outdoors. She taught her girls a love for nature. She wasn’t perfect, but was always there when her girls needed her. She loved her family above all. Crickett was there for each of her grandbabies births… always there to help her daughter’s settle into motherhood. She told everyone that her children and grandchildren were her treasures. She was also their treasure. Crickett moved up to Layton, UT in 2003 to be near her youngest daughter Crystal. She knew her daughter needed her and uprooted her life to go be there for her. In 2004 Crickett lost her leg due to diabetic complications. She was so amazingly strong and brave through it all. Her wonderful sense of humor helped her through the tough times. She had a prosthetic leg with Winnie the Pooh imprinted on it. She didn’t let anything hold her back. She was always out on her scooter or wheelchair. She loved going to the Layton Park and often frequented Burger Stop. She was known for her big, beautiful smile, her hats and her wonderful style. Crickett was a faithful member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a member of the Clearfield Congregation. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Crickett drew comfort from the hope in the resurrection and the promise in Revelation 21:4, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Crickett is survived by daughters Cherri Elam, Crystal Ferguson and her niece Barbara Hail. Father Jack Causey, and brothers Arnold, Allen and Dwain Causey. Her grandchildren Ginger Camarena, Dustin Ferguson, Brandon Ferguson, Shannon Ferguson and Amber Elam. Her great nephew and nieces Shane Hail, Heather Hail, Brianna Peterson and Samantha Hail. Her great grandchildren Olivia, Amelia and Ava Camarena. Crickett was proceeded in death by her mother Ouida Causey, her brother Jack Causey, her sister Doris Chapman, her nephew Bruce Chapman and her great grand-daughter Angel Rose Camarena. Services will be held at the Layton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1323 E. Gentile Street in Layton at 6:00 P.M. A meal will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the Fort Lane Senior Apartment Recreation Building on 300 N. Fort Lane in Layton. A covered dish to share is appreciated.
