Funeral services for Mrs. Doretha Lowther Mason, 92, of Dublin, will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11 AM at the First African Baptist Church, 405 Telfair Street, in Dublin. Reverend Lusora Brown will deliver the eulogy and Reverend B. B. Calloway will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Doretha Lowther was born on November 12, 1925, in Laurens County, Georgia, as the daughter of the late Thomas Loyal Lowther and Amanda Kimbers Lowther. She graduated from Washington Street High School in Dublin. On October 17, 1946, she married Robert Lee Mason, Sr. and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1996. She was employed with the Dublin City School System as a Food Service Manager at Moore Street Elementary School for over 20 years until her retirement. At an early age, she joined the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church and later joined the Greater Strawberry AME Church. She was a dedicated church member and served the church in many roles including church secretary, Sunday School Teacher, local President of the Missionary Society, and Stewardess. She received numerous awards and certificates for services rendered to her church and she was an active member until her health declined. She departed this life on Monday, February 26, 2018.

Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Mason, Sr.; sons, Larry Mason and Robert Lee Mason, Jr.; father, Thomas L. Lowther, Sr.; mother, Amanda Lowther; brothers, Thomas, Roosevelt, Benjamin, Levi Rozier; and by her sisters; Sarah Smith and Mary Etta Smith.

Cherished memories of her devotion will be shared by her children, Sanifer Allen, Dublin, Carolyn Mays, Stone Mountain, Patricia (Hubert) Charles, Dublin, Dr. Vivian (Jared, Sr.) Fluellen, Perry, and Althea Solomon, Jersey City, New Jersey; ten grandchildren, Shandrala (Stacy) Blackshear, Dublin, Rogers Allen, Jr., Dublin, Akil S. (Tanzy) Mason, College Park, H. Bernard Charles, Riverdale, Bernail J. Fluellen, Atlanta, Stephanie C. (Steven) Whitfield, Byron, Jarielle F. (Anthony) Carter, Byron, Jared Fluellen, Jr., Perry, Derek (Andrea) Craig, Peekskill, New York; seventeen great-grandchildren, Paxton Blackshear, Trevor Rose, Alexis Thompkins, Quantavious Clover, Darius Blackshear, Jalen Robert Mason, Patrick Mason, Ramsey Lewis, Rashaud Charles, Ryan Charles, McKenna Carter, Dylan Whitfield, Lilani Charles, Brittnay, Michael, Jazmine, and Tiffani Craig; brother, James (Ann) Lowther, Buffalo, New York; daughter-in-law, Sonja Mason, Atlanta; sisters-in-law, Lillie Lowther, Dublin, and Juanita Rozier, Hazlehurst, Geraldine Rozier, Dublin, and a host of special nephews, nieces, close relatives and dear friends.

The family is receiving friends at 503 Alabama Street, in Dublin, and on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Dudley Funeral Home, 6-7 PM.

The family expresses their appreciation to the dedicated staff at Serenity Hospice and to a loving caregiver, Sonja Brown.
