Funeral services for Mr. Derrick LaShawn "D-Soul" Kates, of Dublin, Georgia, will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. at the Christ Deliverance Temple, 403 East Garner Street in Dublin. Reverend Prenis Edmond will preside and Reverend Isaac Lawson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Derrick Kates, son of Kenneth and Ira Kates, was born on January 7, 1976, in Dublin. He is a member of the Class of 1994 at the Dublin High School. He pursued his passion as a painter at Zeigler Paint Contractors, Inc., for the past 15 years. He was a member of Christ Deliverance Temple of Dublin where his father, Kenneth Kates, is pastor. Mr. Kates loved his family and brought life to everyone he was around. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life on Friday, January 25, 2019. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Raymond Kates, and Othis "Chick" Guyton.

Mr. Kates's beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his parents, Kenneth ad Ira Kates, his beloved and devoted friend, Lucinda Williams, five siblings, Shannon (Tyrone) Wells of Dublin, Kenneth (Sherry) Kates, Jr., of Dublin, Shantrell Kates of Warner Robins, Eric (Constant) Kates of Dublin, and Joshua (Shumari) Kates of Savannah, four children, Dereka Ellington of Dublin, D'Sergio Kates of Dublin, LaMonica Wright of Dublin, and Destiny Harris of South Carolina, grandmothers, Donnie Mae Smith and Annie Mae Kates, seven grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews, one great nephew, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
