Cora Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Smith, of Dublin, will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 11 AM at the Dublin High School Auditorium, 1127 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin. Bishop A. Tim Chatman will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Cora Lee Tillman Chatman Smith was born in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, on November 23, 1938, to Sugar and Lizzie Adams Tillman. The family moved to Dublin when Mrs. Smith was a child. She was raised with strict spiritual standards of love, discipline, sharing, and goodwill for others. She was a 1957 graduate of Oconee High School.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Wabash Church of God in Church for many years. As a licensed practical nurse, she worked in the intensive care unit at Laurens Memorial and Fairview Park Hospitals.
She loved to sing any good music especially gospel songs. She loved to participate in the activities of her children on any level from grade school to handling catering backstage at stadium concerts. She loved to keep her yard in perfect condition and always cared about the success and nurturing of anyone needing that extra push to make it in life. During the early years of her seven sons, she worked two jobs to provide the necessary things. She worked the night shift at the hospital and the day shift at the nursing home. In terms of food, Mrs. Smith had her own special recipes for every dish she cooked for her family and her family’s friends. Every year, she would prepare up to 100 additional plates and send out to homeless and less fortunate for Thanksgiving and at Christmas.
It was very difficult to convince Cora Smith that something “can’t” be done because she believed and taught her sons that “if you want it bad enough, then you will work for it and get it".
Two of her sons, Gregory Bonoski Chatman and Stacy Renardo Chatman, preceded Mrs. Smith in death. Mrs. Smith passed away on July 12, 2015.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her devoted and loving husband of thirty-two years, Thomas Smith, her sons, Bishop A.
