Charlotte Udy
Charlotte Tims Archibald Udy was born April 23, 1885 in Clarkston, Cache County, Utah. She was the daughter of Thomas H. and Vilate Tims Archibald, and was the first of eleven children, named as follows: Charlotte Tims, William Russell, Thomas Edward, John Frankland, Cora, May, Evan, Elizabeth, Loretta, Lorin, and Earl. Charlotte moved as a small child, with her parents, to Plymouth, Utah, where she was raised. Following high School, she graduated from the Brigham Young Academy in Logan. She married Thomas J. Udy on 2 Feb 1905. Her father performed the ceremony that took place in her home. On 13 May 1905, she and her husband traveled in a white-topped buggy to the Logan Temple, where they were sealed. The trip required a full day’s journey, so they spent the night before with Charlotte’s aunt in her home in Logan, and were sealed the next day. The young couple then moved into a two-room log cabin that was located west of Plymouth, Utah, at the turn off from the highway to Udy hot-springs. This cabin had belonged to her husband’s parents, who had built a larger home for themselves. It was here that Charlotte bore her first two children, Lillian first, on 20 Oct 1905, who died at the age of four months from measles and pneumonia. Then came Thomas Glen (Bob), on 16 Dec 1906. In 1908, they moved into their home in Riverside, Utah, where their third child, Newell J. Udy, was born on 6 Jan 1909. Other children came as follows: Grace, on 24 Dec 1911, Ione, on 15 Apr 1914, Nina, on 5 Dec 1915, and Delose, on 8 May 1918. On 27 May 1918, Charlotte’s Father in law, Thomas James Udy, passed away. His loss required that his children take complete responsibility for the farm. This placed increased workloads upon Charlotte, her husband and their children. On 27 Jul 1921, another son, LaVoy, was born. Then came Dorothy on 4 July 1923, who died at the age of eleven months. Finally, Vaudis was born on 16 Nov 1925. Charlotte died at four forty-five p.m. on Monday, 9 May 1949, at a Tremonton hospital, following an illness of two weeks...This grand woman was truly a pioneer of righteousness who bore her trials with humility.
