Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Lee Cordy, of Wrightsville, will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 3 PM, at the Tarver Grove Baptist Church, 441 Tarver Grove Church Road in Bartow. Reverend Dr. Hayward Cordy will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cordy, passed away on November 1, 2016. She was born on May 4, 1927, to the late Pearl Sams and Floyd Jackson in Bartow. She was nurtured and raised by her beloved aunt, the late Carrie Lillie Sams, after the death of her mother.

She married Jasper White, Sr., in 1945, and later married to William Ellis Cordy, Sr., until his untimely death on December 22, 1984. She dedicated her life to nurturing and raising her beloved granddaughter, the late Anita Kwan Taylor. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Lillie Mae Warthen and Rosetta Sams, and sons, William White and Jerry White. She received her early education at Blount Chapel School in Bartow where she excelled in her studies.

She worked many years as a farm laborer and housekeeper in the Johnson County area. She taught her children the value of hard work honesty, and of a good name. She was faithful to God as well as to her family. She joined the Tarver Grove Baptist Church at an early age and committed her life to Jesus Christ during a revival meeting and served faithfully as a Missionary, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Mother until her health failed. She also regularly attended and supported Thompson Grove Baptist Church in Wrightsville. In her later years, she enjoyed attending the Johnson County Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed quilting and fellowship. She made quilts for many family members.

She leaves behind five daughters, Pearl (Leon) Gaskin, Davie Florida, Mary White, Plant City, Florida, Annie Kate Knighten, Belton, Texas, Marie (Benny) Brantley, East Dublin, Charlie Mae Price, Augusta; seven sons, Elder Jasper (Vickie) White, Plant City, Florida, Henry (Pam) White Sr., Plant City, Florida, James (Liz) White, Lakeland, Florida, Kenneth (Yvette) Cordy, Augusta, Rev. Jimmy (Elizabeth) Cordy, East Dublin, Eddie (Mary) Cordy, Dublin, and Rev. Dr. Hayward Cordy, Wrightsville, who served faithfully as her caregiver until her death, along with thirty-four grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, twenty great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 327 Thompson Grove Church Road in Wrightsville and at the Dudley Funeral Home on Saturday, 6-7 pm.
