C. W. Minter

Funeral services for Mr. C. W. Minter, of Rentz, will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the First African Baptist Church at 405 Telfair Street, Dublin, Georgia. Reverend Ellis Carswell will deliver the eulogy.

Mr. C. W. Minter was born on August 28, 1917, to the late John T. and Floyd Minter in Buena Vista, Georgia. He was preceded in death by one child, James E. Minter; and eight siblings, Bessie Minter, Annie Mae Dixon, Edith Durrah, Robert Minter, Joe Minter, Paul Minter, Smith Minter, and Felton Minter.

Mr. Minter spent his childhood in the Buena Vista community in Putnam County, Georgia, where he received his early education in Marion County. He also accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age, and committed to his faith by attending Countyline Baptist Church in Buena Vista. C. W. later served as a Sunday school teacher. During his early high school years, C.W. met the love of his life and his future bride-to-be. Although Rotha Mae was too young at the time, C. W. waited until he received permission from Rotha’s grandmother. C. W. asked Rotha Mae to marry him on September 4, 1938. She obliged, leading to six children.

Shortly after their marriage, C. W. moved his family to Hialeah (in the Seminola neighborhood) in Florida. There, he began working for Pan American World Airways in 1940. He became known by his peers and community as “the Jack of all trades, and the Master of them allbarber, mechanic, carpenter, and electrician.” C. W.’s dedicated tenure at Pan Am afforded him various accolades and promotions. In 1980, C.W. hung his hat and retired after 40 years of devoted service. Afterwards, C.W. used his time and God-given abilities to focus on family and his communities. C.W. moved his family to Carol City, Florida after spending 31 years in Hialeah (Seminola), Florida. He remained in Carol City and the same house for 37 years.

While in Florida, C.W. dedicated his membership and service to New Mount Zion Baptist Church; under the leaderships of Reverend W. M. Mason, Reverend R. C. Solomon, and Reverend E. Grace. He served faithfully as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Financial Secretary, and President of the Junior Usher Board. C. W. also received recognition and awards for his dedicated service. Subsequently, he transitioned his membership to Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church; under the leadership of Reverend Dr. C. P. Preston until his desire to move back to Georgia.

In 2007, C. W. and his wife (being empty nesters) moved to Dublin, Georgia (to the Rentz community) where his wishes were to live out the rest of his days. He joined Central Baptist Church of Dublin, Georgia, under the leadership of Reverend Ellis Carswell. C. W. served faithfully until his health declined. However, he remained a pillar in the community. C. W. and Rotha Mae were featured in several news articles relating to long life and a long marriage. When asked: “What is the secret?”, they responded: “Love and the Grace of God.”

On October 9, 2018, at 10:26 AM., C. W. breathed his last breath and entered into eternal rest. “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:23

Compassion, Wisdom, and great Mentorship were only a few attributes that described the late Honorable C. W. Minter.

He leaves a legacy of golden and cherished memories to his beloved family, which include his lovely and devoted wife, Rotha Mae; five children, Marvin (Estella) of Miami, Florida, Howard of Miami, Florida, Rose Marie of Rentz, Georgia, Mary Ann of Miami, Florida, and Karen Lynn (Lou Allen) of Warner Robbins, Georgia, three brothers, Milton (Irene), Clarence (Marjorie), and Willie (Louise), all from Buena Vista, Georgia, one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Minter, 17 grandchildren (of which one is deceased), 32 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; special caregivers, his baby girl Karen Lynn (Baba) and Redden J. Thomas, and a host of other family members and close friends.

The family is receiving friends at 912 Circle Drive in Rentz. Please post condolences at ServicesByDudley.com.
