Bonita Williams
Funeral services for Mrs. Bonita Lawrence Williams, 72, of Dublin, will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2014, at 11 AM at the First African Baptist Church, 405 Telfair Street in Dublin. Reverend Clarence Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams, who passed away on on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, was born in Dublin, Georgia, on November 27, 1941 to the late Ineather Abrams and H. D. Lawrence. She was a graduate of Oconee High School’s Class of 1959. Mrs. Williams retired from Rockwell Automation in 2003. After that time, she volunteered at Fairview Park Hospital until her health declined. She received the FRIST Humanitarian Award in 2008. She was a faithful and hardworking member of the First African Baptist Church of Dublin where she served in numerous capacities including President of the Gospel Choir, Chairperson of the Finance Ministry, Radio Broadcast, Hospitality and Senior Mission Ministries, and President of the Deaconess Ministry.
Mrs. Williams was a forceful advocate for the Southside Community Association and she utilized her resources by serving on the Housing Task Force and as Vice Chairperson of the City of Dublin Planning and Zoning Committee. She was also active with the Oconee High School National Alumni Association and with the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People. She participated in the Twelth District of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, was a former member of the Ebony Society and was a founding member of the Dublin-Laurens County Black Festival Community Committee, Incorporated, for which she served as as Chairperson for serveral terms. In 1997, she was honored as Woman of the Year by the Black Festival Committee.
She enjoyed bowling with the Wednesday Morning Coffee League, and she enjoyed baking and trying new recipes.
Mrs. Williams leaves loving memories to her husband, Douglas R. Williams of Dublin; was a caring and devoted mother to her children, Veronica Williams-Mosley of Charlotte, North Carolina, Angela M. Williams and Tina R. Williams, both of Dublin; and she was adored as “Granny” to Hillary Mosley of Petersburg, Virginia. She has one sister, Vernell Douglas of Atlanta, one brother, Devis Lawrence of Athens, a sister-in-law, Heddye (Edward) DuCree of Wilmington, North Carolina, and a brother-in-law, Jackie (Shirley) Brinson of Atlanta, along with and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving friends at 1601 Lance Drive in Dublin.
