Funeral services for Mother Bobbie Jean Charles Melton, of Dublin, will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the New Bible Believers Missionary Baptist Church, 204 Hillcrest Drive, Dublin. Reverend Benny Brantley will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Milledgeville on Wednesday.

Mother Melton was born on May 18, 1947, to the late Hugo Charles, Sr., and Essie Bell Charles Howard. She graduated from Oconee High School in 1965, and from Kerr Business College in 1994; she also attended Brooklyn Institute College and Opportunities Industrial Center in Brooklyn, New York. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. C. J. Melton in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

She was employed at Regency Thermograph Printing Company as a billing and accounting clerk in New York, New York, and as a secretary at BMA of Augusta Dialysis in Augusta, Georgia. She was the owner of Bobbie’s Trucking, Inc.

Mother Melton was a dedicated Christian. Her journey began at Jackson Chapel CME Church where she served faithfully in several positions. She became a member at New Bible Believers Missionary Baptist Church and was a Mother of the church. She was called to rest on October 4, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Essie Bell Charles Howard, her father, Hugo (Vera) Charles, Sr., husband, C. J. Melton, sisters, Eddie Jean Charles King, Belinda Howard Waters, Dorothy Jean Charles, Teresa Charles Freeman, and by a brother, Quincy Charles.

Mother Melton leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Apostle Dr. Jannie (Walter) Brady, Bonaire; Angie (Joel) Gray, Mount Olive, North Carolina, Cynthia Melton, Raleigh, North Carolina; three sons, Dr. Mark (Lula) Melton, Durham, North Carolina; Eric (Christine) Melton, Dublin, and M.Sgt. Cecil (Tamika) Melton, Jacksonville, North Carolina, sisters, JoAnn McBride, and Faye McBride of Dublin, Georgia; five brothers, Hubert (Patricia) Charles, Mervin Charles, Hugo Charles, Otha (Kery) Charles, Dublin, and Morris Charles, Texas, a devoted aunt, Carolyn Charles Brown, Dublin; uncle, Earnest Charles, Dublin; brothers-in-law, Earl Petteway, Amityville, New York, and Michael Waters, Sr., Dublin; goddaughter, Naomi King, Dublin; godsons, Michael Waters, Jr., Warner Robins, Jason (Lillie) King, Augusta, and Reverend James (Carol) Scott of Adrian; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, church family and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 803 North Washington Street in Dublin.
