Bette Ruth Burns SmithAugust 18, 1926-February 20, 2012Murrells Inlet, SCBette (Grandma or Gee Gee) Ruth Burns Smith went to be with her heavenly father on Monday, February 20, 2012. She was 85. Bette was born in Lenoir City, Tennessee, August 18th, 1926, daughter of Jessie and Elmer Burns. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul Faison Smith and together they celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage. Bette was predeceased by a sister Alberta Hanggeli. She is survived by five children and their spouses; Paula and Onnie Langley of Winston Salem NC; Gary and Connie Smith of Longview, Tx; Connie and Larry Miller of Hemingway, SC; Trudy and Patrick Ravins of Hillsboro, Or; Paul Smith of Blue Springs, Mo; and her sister and brother, Roberta Rossi and James Burns; along with 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; any many nieces and nephews.Bette was a loving mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and her church.In the past Bette was an active member of Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and served as a deacon for many years. Paul and Bette together donated time and energy to “Helping Hand” of Surfside Beach. A Celebration of Bette's life will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
