Allen Oliver

Funeral services for Mr. Allen Oliver, Jr., of Wrightsville, will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 2 PM at the Sand Hill Baptist Church, 1780 Gum Log Road in Wrightsville. Reverend Jerry L. Walden will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Oliver was born on March 4, 1950, to the late Mr. Allen Oliver, Sr., and Mrs. Mattie Mae Oliver. On Sunday, May 7, 2017, God called him home to rest. He grew up in Wrightsville, Johnson County, and at an early age, he joined the Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Known as “Shawty” and “Mae’s Baby Boy” by his family and friends, he had a love for fishing and hunting. He was also known for his baseball skills during his younger years.

Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Annie Thomas Oliver, a daughter, Ms. Melissa Oliver, a step-son, Mr. Leroy Owens, and by siblings, Mrs. Pearlie Mae Green and Mr. John Oliver.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories a son, Michael (Stephanie) Owens, Sr., of Jesup; a stepson, Bennie Owens, Jr., of Soperton; three sisters: Lillian Oliver of Brunswick; Latha (Isaac) Williams and Katherine (Dewey) Wallace, both of Wrightsville; two brothers: A. C. (Earnestine) Oliver and Albert Oliver, both of Wrightsville, a stepdaughter-in-law, Tamiko Owens of Soperton; one aunt, Lotis Pearl Oliver of Wrightsville; two sisters-in-law: Nannette McClendon of Wrightsville, and Bonita Green of Louisville; seven grandchildren: Derrick (Marnique) Oliver of Louisville; Marissa Oliver of Wrightsville; Kalisha Oliver of Tennille; Ja’Corey Owens and Tyra Wadley, both of Soperton; Mykinna Owens of Brunswick and Michael Owens, Jr., of Jesup; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 1598 Goins Road in Wrightsville.
