Funeral services for Mr. Alfonzo Davis, of Dublin, will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 1 PM at the First African Baptist Church, 405 Telfair Street in Dublin. Reverend Anthony Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Davis, who passed away on January 11, 2017, was born on August 3, 1920, in Dublin, Georgia, as the son of the late Mr. Tom and Mrs. Essie Davis. He was educated in the Laurens County schools. He joined the United States Army in 1941, and served two years as a military police officer. He then returned home and helped to farm their land. He drove the school bus for the Fleming Chapel Schoo; the bus was owned by his father, Mr. Tom Davis, who was the first African American to own a school bus in Laurens County. He was employed for Tidwell Construction for 25 years and later worked for Laurens Park Mill for 10 years where he retired at the age of 65. He joined Fleming Chapel AME Church at an early age and was a faithful and active member, serving on the Usher and Steward Boards, until his health declined. He was a member of Hatoff Lodge Number 409 for 54 years. He was a loving husband and caring father. He loved reading the Bible. His favorite hobby was fishing; he would fish, talk and tell a joke or two.

In 1946, he married Oznola Berry, and they had five children. On December 28, 2016, they celebrated their seventieth anniversary. He was the father of six children.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita McGregor, sons, Tennyson and Rickey Davis, brother, Thomas Davis, brother-in-law, Bertram Greenfield, sons-in-law, Hilbert Fullwood, Jimmy McGregor, sisters, Christine Stanley, Dorothy Robinson, Maudine Price, sisters-in-law, Ora Davis, Stella Davis, and by brothers-in-law, Leo Stanley, and Roosevelt Robinson.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and caring wife, Mrs. Oznola B. Davis, daughters, Rosemary Fullwood, Brenda (Richard) Pauldo, son, Jerry (Delois) Davis, daughter-in-law, Catherine Davis, grandchildren, Belinda and Randall Fullwood, Dublin, Monique Mitchell, Jamie McGregor, Fayetteville, Keith (Maria) Pauldo, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Chenelle (Ronald) Lyons, Angela, Bryan, Ri’Nesha Davis, Chattanooga, Tennessee, nine great grandchildren, brothers, Willie Davis, Cleveland, Ohio, S.J. (Emma) Davis, Detroit, Michigan, sisters, Essie Greenfield, Detroit, Michigan, Earlene (Charles) Moncrief, Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 505 Ray Street in Dublin.
