Funeral Services for Mrs. Josephine Pinkney, former resident of 606 McKinley Street will be
held, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 P. M. in the Strawberry A. M. E. Church,
620 Country Club Road, Dublin, GA. The Bishop Gregory Blue will officiate and burial will follow
in the family plot at the church.
Josephine Pinkney, 78, was born on March 21, 1938 to the late J.C. and Catherine Watkins, and departed this life Wednesday, September 7, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Pinkney, and by her sisters; Ina Glass and Lillian Bradford, also a brother, Hardy (Buddy) Watkins.
She attended Oconee High School. She spent some of her younger years living in Miami, FL and Brooklyn, NY. Later, she moved back to Dublin where she served as a domestic aide and was a cherished friend of the Glover, Kibler, and Kirkland families. She was dedicated to these families for over 25 years. She was a devoted member of the Strawberry A. M. E. Church for many years. She faithfully served on the kitchen committee and Usher Board as long as her health would allow. She was well known for her Sunday dinners and various meals that could not be duplicated. These were only a few of her amazing talents. She was also a devoted member of the local “Spacesetters” ladies club. You could also always count of Josephine (“Josie”, or “Jo”) for laughter, a joke, or words of wisdom.
Her memory thrives on through her two sons, Bishop Dr. Gregory K. (Jackie)Blue, Columbus , GA and Jeffrey (Sandra) Blue, Decatur, GA. Her personality and style is carried on through her grandsons-Christopher Chad (Sheena) Blue, Antonio (Zakiya) Couch Blue, Gregory J. (Ymeoshi) Blue, Kethen Hollings Blue, Cameron J. Blue, and Kerry M. Blue. Granddaughters-Christina Blue (Josiah) Dawson, Robyn (Phillip) Thornton, Kelphe Blue, Chasemine “Bree” Short; great-grandsons-Timothy Bennett, Jordan Kidd, Raymond Browder, Jr., Antonio Couch, Axel Reed Blue, Gregory Lee Couch and great granddaughters-Akivia Blue, Taylor Drakeford, Nicole Drakeford, Janiya Cromartie, Zaynah Couch, Cyan Blue Dawson.
A devoted and loving sister, Kay (J.B.) Brantley, Dublin, GA.
Josephine’s spirit and teachings continues to live through her nieces: Lynda Glass-Mitchell Rockaway Beach, NY, Daphanie Brantley, Powder Springs, GA, Tiffanie (Brian) Wright, Douglasville, GA, and Lecresicia Brantley Marion, Dublin, GA; and nephews, Anthony (Michele) Marion, Victor Marion, Lory Marion, Bernard(Lisa) Watkins, McDonough, GA, Michael (Vivian) Watkins, Kenneth (Fatimah) Watkins, Christopher Brantley, and Wynton Brantley, also a host of great nieces and great nephews.
Josephine will be remembered by a few devoted friends and relatives-Ernestine Dudley, Alfonso Blackshear, and Robert Lee Marion, also by her God daughter-Lugene Thomas, and a special thanks to Dr. Sandra Hollander and staff along with the nursing staff of Amedysis Home Healthcare.
Mrs. Pinkney remains will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services.
Friends are being received at the funeral home Friday, September 09, 2016 from 6:00 P. M. until
8:00 P. M. and at the home of her niece, Ms. Lecresicia Marion, 759 J. W. Warren Road East Dublin, GA
31027. Arrangements entrusted to Wyche’s Funeral Home.
