Funeral services for Mr. Tommie Lee Coates, of Wrightsville, will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 1 PM at Brown Hill Baptist Church, 608 Highway 26, Cochran. Reverend Melton Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Coates, who passed on January 27, 2016, was born April 13, 1933, to the late Mrs. Josephine Hudson Coates and Mr. Tommie Coates. He was the surviving sibling of Cora Smith, Ruby Smith Knight, Willie Mae Smith Stanley, Leo Stanley Evan, Leila Smith, Orvis Lee Smith, Omid Smith and Huey Smith.

He worked as a mechanic for over forty years at Leaf Incorporated in Chicago, Illinois, before retiring in 1993. He met Mrs. Susie Mae Elvine and they married on January 16, 1996.

Mr. Coates is survived by his wife of twenty years, Susie Mae Coates; two daughters and three sons, Kim Coates, Yolanda Coates, Top Coates, Mark Lowes and Peach Coates of Chicago, Illinois; four stepchildren, Charles (Lashanda) Elvine, Dawn (Brandon) Stephens, Susan Elvine and Retia Elvine of Cochran. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 304 Sandhill Church Road, Wrightsville.
