Funeral services for Mrs. Mayme Thomasenor Walker “Tommie” Pearson, of Dublin, will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2 PM at the Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 308 Rowe Street in Dublin, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearson was born to adoring parents, Jennie Ford Walker Harris and Richard Harris, and to an adoring aunt and uncle, Mayme Ford Dudley and Herbert Horatio Dudley, in Dublin, Georgia, on June 6, 1934. She attended Washington Street School in Dublin and received her high school diploma from the Mather School for Girls in Beaufort, South Carolina, in 1951. She received her bachelors of arts degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, as a member of the Class of 1955, and did post graduate work at Fort Valley State University and at Pennsylvania State University. As a teacher, she taught at Danville (Georgia) Elementary School and Wilkinson County (Georgia) School System and worked as the first arts teacher in the Laurens County (Georgia) School System at all three schools before system integration. She has served the community as owner of the Dudley Funeral Home of Dublin, Thomasenor’s Beauty & Barber Shop, and Dudley’s Retreat Cafe. She has served the state and county in various capacities including as a board member for the following organizations: the Georgia Governors Council for Arts and Humanities, The American Cancer Society, The Dublin Communities in Schools, the Laurens County Department of Family and Children Services, and for Three Rivers Home Health. She also served on The Blarney Stones (as member and chairperson) of St. Patrick’s Festival, the Laurens County Historical Society, Inc., the Dublin-Laurens Branch of the NAACP, and the Dublin-Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, and she was a member of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Dublin, Georgia. She has received numerous awards and recognitions over the years including Woman of the Year from the Dublin-Laurens Black Festival Community Committee.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Alfred O. Pearson, Sr., along with their four children, Ojetta Pearson, Alfred Pearson, Jr., Carl Pearson, and Herbertta Pearson-Boone, foster brother, William R. Blount. and grandchild, Cristy P. (Kendrick) Mack, and great grandchild, Kendrick Mack, Jr., all of Dublin, three sisters-in-law, Lavesta P. Rutland of Atlanta, Mamie P. Jordan of Kansas City, Missouri, Dorothy S. Pearson of Dublin, and Joyce Pearson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and loving caregivers including Angela Pringle, Altanese Thomas, and Monica Dixon; along with nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
