Funeral Services for Ms. Susie Ree Lowther will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016 in the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist
Church, 494 Evergreen Road, Dublin, Georgia at 2:00 P.M., the Rev. Winfred McCloud will officiate and burial
will follow in the church cemetery.
Susie was born on August 22, 1953 to union of Lillie Marie and the late Roosevelt Lowther Sr. in Dublin, Georgia
She attended Oconee High and the Dublin City Schools and was a member of it’s first integrated graduating class. She was a member of the chorus under the direction of Mrs. Julie Driger and was also a member of the band. At an early age she
volunteered as a candy striper at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. She graduated from Dublin High School
in 1971. Susie then attended Albany State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She began her employment at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, Georgia and later joined the staff of Laurens Memorial
Hospital. Susie was a part of the leadership transition team when Fairview Park Hospital opened its doors.
She served as Nursing Supervisor for all nursing units there. She later became the Director of Education, where she served in
that capacity until her retirement in 2006. She was adjunct faculty at Heart
of Georgia Technical College. She joined Heart of Georgia Technical College, now OFTC, as a Practical Nursing Instructor.
She was affiliated with several nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association.
She was initiated into the Macon Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in the Spring of 1991. In 1996,
she was one of the Charter Members of the Dublin-Laurens Alumnae Chapter where she served
as Chaplain and as Recording Secretary. Susie was a beloved member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Also a member of the Fidelity Chapter No. 45 Order of the Eastern Star Jurisdiction of
Georgia. She was a former member of the Dublin Chapter of the American Heart Association
and an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society. She served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for
Humanity and was also a member of the Dublin Chapter of the NAACP. She was a member of
the Oconee High School National Alumni Association. She was a proud alumna of Albany State
University and she served as President of the Laurens County Alumni Association. In 1994, she
was honored as Woman of the Year by the Black Festival Committee and
a member of the Dublin-Laurens Leadership Class. She joined
Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend C.P. Roberts. In her youth,
Susie was a member of the Junior Usher Board. She later joined the Choir and also became a
member of the Nursing Ministry. She was dutiful Assistant Secretary in the Choir and she was a
Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed her role as Vacation Bible School Director for many
years. Susie also volunteered as the Director of Christian Education. She served as
church Reporter and Announcer.
She was appointed as Dean of the First Rehoboth
Association Congress of Christian Education. She was the 12th District Health Care Ministry
Director of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia(GMBC) and was recently
appointed as GMBC Regional Healthcare Director. Susie transitioned peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2016.
She is survived by
her mother Lillie Lowther, her son Jamie(Keisha) Lowther of Tuscaloosa, AL., her siblings
Roosevelt(Evelyn) Lowther of Valdosta, Ga., Marie (Shelton) Jackson, Clinton (Bobbie Faye)
Lowther of Dublin,GA., Geraldine(Love) Harmon of Macon, GA., Beverly Lowther,
Dwayne(Danielle) Lowther of Dublin GA., and her dear Godsister, Jan(Hiawatha) Farmer of
Dublin, GA. She was loved greatly by her grandchildren, Jeremiah Essien, Adia Elizabeth, and
Evan Ayinde Lowther. They were the joys of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her
godchildren, Jessica McCune and Erin McCune of Savannah, GA. She also had 3 Godnieces
NaToya(Jarrod) Fletcher, TeNaya Farmer, and Enya Farmer. She also loved her nieces and
nephews as if they were her own. They include Zelda Faye Harmon, Jamial Jenkins, Kevin
(Elesha) Lowther, Pharren(Maria Steagall) Lowther, Omri(Terri Livingston) Lowther, Franieda
Jackson, Christopher(Lauren Dunn) Lowther, Justin Lowther, Shelton Jackson II( who’s also her
Godson), DeAsia Lowther, Deanna Lowther, DeAndrea Lowther. She was blessed to also have
a host of great nieces and great nephews, Kianna Smith, Zadarious Smith,
Shakira(Zachery)Walker, Marty Lewis Jr., Kalitre Livingston, Jordan Lowther, Joshua Lowther,
Nevaeh Steagall, Jace Lowther, London Lowther, Pharrah Lowther, Amirah Lowther, Journey
Lowther, Braelyn Smith. She cared for and loved her aunts and uncles. Doretha Mason,
Levi (Juanita) Rozier, of Dublin Ga., James(Ann) Lowther of Buffalo, NY, Bessie Mae Smith of
Toomsboro, GA., and Geraldine Rozier of Dublin, GA. She is also survived by a host of cousins,
her Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church family, and sorrowing friends including a devoted friend,
Carolyn (Jason) McCune.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 5:00 P. M. til 6:00 P. M.
Ms. Lowther will be placed in the church one hour prior to her services. Friends are beings received at the family
