Funeral Services for Mr. Sammy Lee Robinson, Jr., 67, of Dublin, will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at 11 AM at the Green Grove Baptist Church, 2418 US Highway 441 South, Dublin. Apostle James Bell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville.

Sammy Lee Robinson Jr. was born October 5, 1947, in Dublin Georgia to proud parents, Lillian Hagin Robinson and Sammy Lee Robinson, Sr. He was a curious, energetic and talented child which, by his teen years, led him to become a celebrated singer and football player. Sammy graduated from Oconee High School in June 1966.

Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he became an accomplished paratrooper and parachute rigger in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict with service dates encompassing October 19, 1966 through May 1, 1969, after which he was granted an honorable discharge and returned to the United States.

On November 13, 1971, Sammy wed his childhood sweetheart, Melissa Anderson Robinson and to this union was born one son and two daughters. He became an employee of the Ford Motor Company where he served in many capacities within the Hapeville Georgia Assembly facility from which he retired after 38 years of service when the facility was shut down by the company. Over the course of the years between his military career and his tenure with Ford, he also earned an auto body repair certification, master barber certification and, never one to sit idly, he earned a certification as an Emergency Medical Technician post retirement.

Sammy Lee Robinson Jr. attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in McDonough.

He is survived by a wife of forty-three years, Melissa A. Robinson; four children, Zandra Raquel Robinson, Rico Ramon Robinson, Carmin R. Tuggle and Tarkwa Joi Robinson; nine grandchildren, Alexander T. Robinson, Kaneesha B. Cordy, Nia M Tuggle, Tiana N. Tuggle, Jasmin A. Tuggle, Devan M. Tuggle, Taylor M. Williams, Ethan C. Williams and Mae-Lisa M. Robinson; two great grandchildren, Cameron K. Warthen and Alexiana S. Cray; six siblings and their spouses, Jonas (Carolyn) Robinson, Velma (Albert) Burch, Francis (Arthur) Snead, Gloria (Marshall) Axson, Benjamin Robinson of Dublin and Dorothy (Arthur) Giles of Atlanta, as well as several nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home of Gloria (Marshall) Axson, 121 Starr Circle, East Dublin and at the Dudley Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20, 6-7 pm.
