YORK -- Richard Powell Whitesides, 83, of 1066 N Shiloh Road passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.
The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church with Rev. DC Horne and Rev. Tom McPhail officiating. Burial will be at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be held at 5:30 PM on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Bratton Funeral Home, followed by visitation from 6 - 8 PM.
Richard was a son of the late Thomas Howard Whitesides and Opal Nadine Powell Whitesides. Richard was a member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, retired as a heavy duty mechanic and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge in Newport, York County Crescent Shrine Club, and the Scottish Rites.
He is survived by his wife Betty Lee Whitesides of York, SC, children, Glenna Hubbell of York, SC, Rick Whitesides of Brownsburg, IN, Michelle Myers of Winfield, IL, and Ron Whitesides of Carson City, NV, sister Carroll Garner of York, SC, 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred Ann Robinson Whitesides and his daughter Beth Bloomfield.
