Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Mae Beard of Dublin will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 12:00 PM at the Washington Street Presbyterian Church at 975 South Washington Street in Dublin. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery in Dublin. Reverend Ricky Porter will officiate. Mrs. Ethel Mae Beard was born January 3, 1929. She departed this life on January 30, 2013. Her mother was Daisy "Mom Sissy" Miller. She was raised by her grandparents, Frank and Henrietta Burke. She departed this life to be with the Lord on January 30, 2012, at her residence in Dublin. Ethel Mae Beard attended Laurens County Public Schools. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Willie Oscar Beard, and was a long-time resident of Dublin. Mrs. Beard accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Jordan Stream Baptist Church in Toomsboro, Georgia. She later relocated to Dublin where, in 1967, she joined the Washington Street Presbyterian Church. At the church, she served as a Ruling Elder, Circle Leader of Presbyterian Women, was active in Adult Sunday School and Bible Study, and most recently, was a member of the Property and Facilities Committee. She was a faithful steward contributing to the overall welfare of the church which awarded her with a plaque in 2011 for 54 years of faithful service as a loyal member. She retired as Cook Supervisor from the Carl Vinson Veterans Administration Center after 40 years of service where she was highly respected and appreciated by her colleagues as evidenced by her many performance and service awards. Mrs. Beard had a passion for cooking and catered many functions and weddings throughout middle Georgia. Her cakes and food were loved by many. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie O. Beard, a sister, Volene Watkins, and a niece, Marlene Barbour. Ethel Mae Beard leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Ms. Gwendolyn Beard; a grandson, Mr. Wimpy Bill Allen, Jr., of Dublin; sisters, Hazel Jones, Allentown, Ollie Ruth Hill, Fort Pierce, Florida, Gladys Lindsey, Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Thomas (Cora) Smith, Dublin; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family; a dear friend, Ms. Laura Nesbitt, and a host of other family and friends.
