Eli Ellington

Funeral services for Mr. Eli “Boss” Ellington, Sr., will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 11 AM at the Second Baptist Church, 800 North Decatur Street, in Dublin. Reverend Korie Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Ellington was born on May 27, 1921, to the late Charlie and Penny Ellington in Dublin, Georgia. He was one of five children, and his siblings, Charlie, Jr., Juanita, Duke, and James, preceded him in death. He was inducted into the United States Naval Service on November 27, 1943. He entered into active service on December 4, 1943, serving on the USS LST 449 during his tour of duty. He received honorable discharge on December 24, 1945, as a veteran of World War II.

On December 24, 1948, he married Eliza Howell, and to this union, six children were born. He was employed by the Carl Vinson Veterans Administration Medical Center and later J. P. Stevens Company. He also worked as a brick mason. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church. He joined his beloved wife, Eliza Mae Ellington, in heaven on Thursday, December 3, 2015.
He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and playing checkers with his brother, James (Chick) Ellington. He loved his family and often spoke of family life as “a blessing.” He left an unforgettable legacy of love for his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memories six children: Eli (Joanne) of Dalton; Larry (Zanett) of Calhoun; Guynell Ellington, of Dublin; Timothy Ellington of Dallas, Texas; Bobbie Faye (Clinton) Lowther, of Dublin; Rex (Sheila) Ellington of Dublin, grandchildren, Tamika, Larry, Jr., Keith, Allison, Kwabene, Brittany, Chondra, Cherika, Kevin, Christopher, Justin, Jalen, Brandon, and fifteen great-grandchildren and two great great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1003 Rutland Drive in Dublin.
