Funeral services for Mr. Douglas Robert Williams, 80, a lifelong resident of Dublin, will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 12 PM at the Howard Chapel United Methodist Church, 508 South Washington Street, Dublin. Reverend Antonio Sutton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Williams, who passed away on February 1, 2015, was born on January 17, 1935, to Nina Cornelia Williams and Eural Roberts in Dublin. He lived with his grandmother, Amanda Jackson McKinnon, with whom he was very close and learned many life lessons that he remembered fondly. He joined Howard Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age.

During his service in the United States Navy, Mr. Williams was able to travel extensively. Upon returning to Dublin, he completed his senior year at the Oconee High School and graduated in the Class of 1957. He matriculated at Morgan State College. He was the first African American to attend Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. He began his career as an Licensed Practical Nurse with the Carl Vinson Veterans Administration Medical Center and retired after 30 years of service. Additionally, he also retired from the State of Georgia with 10 years of service.

Mr. Williams had a gifted, free spirited, personality, and loved to challenge people in their thinking. He had a deep respect for education and encouraged young men in the Dublin community. Douglas took great pride in his home and manicuring his lawn. He was an avid reader and sports fan.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Bonita Lawrence who preceded him in death on April 8, 2014. Mr. Williams had an untiring love for his family and was a proud and devoted father. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Nina Williams Brinson, his father, Mr. Eural Roberts, his grandmother, Amanda McKinnon, and brothers, William Roberts, Clyde Brinson and William Brinson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Angela M. Williams, Tina R. Williams of Dublin and Veronica Williams-Mosley of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a granddaughter, Hillary Mosley of Petersburg, Virginia, a sister, Heddye (Edward) Ducree of Wilmington, North Carolina; a brother, Jack (Shirley) Brinson, Sr., of Atlanta, a sister-in-law, Vernell Douglas of Atlanta; a brother-in-law, Devis Lawrence of Athens, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
