Christopher Thompson

Christopher “Chris” Thompson, age 54, died peacefully on February 6, 2016 in hospice at Rock Hill Post-Acute Care Center in Rock Hill, SC. Chris was born in Little Rock, AR on December 28, 1961 to Benny Thompson and Rachel (Mendenhall) Thompson. He grew up in the North Carolina Piedmont with a strong love for the outdoors, and he graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem. His career in aircraft maintenance began after joining the U.S. Army in 1983, where he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. After the Army, he lived in Southern California before moving to the Charlotte area to work for US Airways. In 1995 he began living on Lake Wylie, where he met his wife, Janet Sue Thompson. He always loved boats and being on the water with friends. His last five years were spent living in York, SC, where he and Sue enjoyed the company of their dogs, cats, horses, and parrot. Chris brought smiles, laughter, and easy comfort to those around him. He was always good for a joke and a story, and he forged many friendships that lasted to the end of his life.

Chris is survived by his loving spouse, Janet Sue (Jones) Thompson; his brother, Timothy Thompson; his twelve brothers and sisters-in law: Jay & Debbie Page, Mary & Charley Faulkner, Steve & Lee Jones, Linda & Kyle Hill, Don & Julie Jones, and Nancy & Larry Burdette. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, including his godson, Eric Thompson.

Chris was never one for ceremony; instead of a funeral service, arrangements are underway for a small household gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the York County Animal Shelter or your local animal shelter.

Many devoted friends and family supported Chris and Sue during his final days, and he was surrounded by loved ones as he passed. For their care and comfort, special thanks are given to Angela de Varona, Ken and Karen Chapman, Tim and Donna Aldridge, Eric Thompson, and Tim Thompson.
