Funeral services for Mrs. Aretha Jean Dixon, of Montrose, Georgia, will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Greater Union Grove Church of God in Christ at 4780 US 80 in Montrose. Pastor Phillips Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Aretha Jean Dixon was born in Laurens County, Georgia, on November 3, 1959, to Mamie Braziel and the late Grinner “Bear” Watkins James Lee Braziel, Sr. She was a life-long member of the Greater Union Grove Church of God in Christ. She was employed by the Carl Vinson Veterans Medical Center at her time of death. She served in the United States Army for twelve years and worked at Lithonia Lighting for thirty years. Mrs. Dixon passed away on May 7, 2019.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Dorothy Smith, Fannie Braziel, Annie Allen, Hattie Hill, and Robbie Slaughter and by one brother, James Braziel, Jr.

She leaves behind a legacy of love to be remembered and cherished by her devoted son, Myrio {Latoya) Whitten of Eastman, four grandchildren, Mesmarian Love, Markeze Williams, Makatilyn Haynes, and Myrio Whitten, mother, Mamie Braziel of Montrose, eleven sisters, Mary Thomas of Warner Robins, Bertha Braziel of Atlanta, Christine Holliman, Carolyn (Willie) Lawson, Margaret (J. C.) Billue, Patrice (Ron) Pace, Evelyn (Vinchinzo) Leto, Debbbie Crockett, Barbara Hall, Robbie (Anthony) White and Margo Ashley, all of Laurens County, nine brothers, Terry (Stacy) Hill, Jerry (Dorena) Mack of Dublin, Willie Lee (Detra) Watkins, Charles (Letha) Watkins, Gregory Watkins, Kenneth (Barbara) Watkins, Ellis Hall, Freddie Hall and Thomas (Crystal) Ashley, all of Wilkinson County, and a devoted nephew, Jeffery (Charlotte) Braziel, more like a brother, of Eastman and a host of many other relatives and friends.
