Funeral services for Mr. Alvin Chester Cross, Sr., will be held at 2:00 PM. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, 308 Rowe Street in Dublin. Reverend Ellis Carswell will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Alvin Cross, Sr., was a faithful and dedicated member, and a steward at the Fleming Chapel A.M.E. Church in Rentz. He also served as the church treasurer until his health failed. He attended Mary Fleming High School and was a member of the Masonic Landmark Lodge #64. His two passions were roofing and farming.

For nearly 50 years, he owned and operated Cross Roofing Company, the first and only black owned roofing company in the local area. Mr. Cross continued to work until he was no longer able. His second love was farming. For many years he worked his beloved farmland filled with livestock, to which he referred as his four legged children.

Alvin Cross, Sr., was born in Dublin on May 20, 1938, to the late Rosie L. (Thomas) Cross and the late Cornell (Catherine) Martin. He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Tyrone Cross, two brothers; Marvin and Charles Cross. Mr. Cross entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 6, 2013, following a short illness.

Mr. Cross leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife, Emma Belle Cross with whom he shared a union of 51 years; one son, Alvin Cross, Jr.; five daughters, Beverly (Jerry) Banks, Angela and Pamela Cross, Gail Daniels and Dorothy Watkins; one brother, Fred Cross; three sisters, Shirley Jean (Harold) Lee, Luetha and Ernestine Cross; six step-brothers, Ivory, David, Gary, Terry, Tony and Allen Cross; three step-sisters, Gwen, Deyana and Satara Cross; one uncle, James “Brother” Hall; two aunts, Bretha (Albert) Jones and Ruth “Sister” Smith; one sister in-law, Ollie (Albert) Coneway; seven grand-children, Stephen Spencer, Kristie, Amelia, Chasity Cross, Briana Banks, Alisha Cross and Kourtney King; four great-grand children; Shaquor Worthen, Demira Moye, Destiny Worthen and Zion Bostic and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at his home church, Fleming Chapel A.M.E. Church, 3253 US Highway 441 South, Rentz, Georgia, on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM., with viewing from 6:00 until 7:00 PM.
